How to price a CS2 skin: float, fade percentage and Doppler phase
The name and wear tier of a skin only tell part of the story. Exact float, fade percentage and Doppler phase often explain why one copy sells for much more than another.
Float value
Every skin has a float between 0 and 1. Lower floats look cleaner. The wear tiers are cut-offs on that number, so two Field-Tested skins can have very different floats.
- Factory New: 0.00 to 0.07
- Minimal Wear: 0.07 to 0.15
- Field-Tested: 0.15 to 0.38
- Well-Worn: 0.38 to 0.45
- Battle-Scarred: 0.45 to 1.00
Why float changes the price
A skin at 0.0700 is only just Minimal Wear, while one at 0.0001 is near-perfect Factory New. Buyers pay extra for the very low end of a tier, and for unusually high floats on some skins, since a heavily worn look is sought after for a few designs.
Fade percentage
Fade skins are graded by how much of the rainbow gradient shows. Fade percentage runs up to 100, and the higher the number, the fuller the gradient and the higher the price. Compare copies on the same knife or weapon, since ranges differ between models.
Doppler phases
- Phases 1 to 4 differ in colour balance, and buyers usually have favourites.
- Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl are rare Doppler phases that sell for far more than standard phases.
- Emerald is the rare phase for Gamma Doppler.
How to use this on CSTradeHub
When a trade includes items imported from an inventory, the listing shows exact float, fade percentage and Doppler phase where they apply. Compare the price on the source you trust: the prices dropdown in the header switches between Steam Market, Buff163, CSFloat and Skinport.
